  • Public Works to close portion of East 2300 Road for drainage project

    On Monday, August 10, Douglas County Public Works is planning to close East 2300 Road south of North 1137 Road to all traffic for a drainage maintenance project. The project is expected to take about two weeks, weather permitting.

    The project includes increasing the size of an existing culvert, installing two new culverts where they do not currently exist, and increasing the ditch capacity.

  • Public Works to close Lone Star Lake for herbicide treatment on Aug. 6

    Douglas County Public Works will treat reemerging areas of Eurasian Water Milfoil in isolated areas of Lone Star Lake with an herbicide. The treatment with an herbicide called Navigate is scheduled for Thursday, August 6, weather permitting.

    Due to the treatment, Lone Star Lake will be closed Thursday, August 6, to all water activities and signs will be posted. Public Works will reopen the lake on Friday, August 7.

  • Douglas County Clerk's Office has posted unofficial primary election results

    The Douglas County Clerk's Office has posted unofficial results for the primary election. They results can be found here: http://dgcoks.org/primary2020

    Any ballot that is postmarked on or before August 4 and received in the mail on or before Friday, August 7, will count. Douglas County voters can track the delivery and receipt of their mail-in ballots using Ballot Scout.

  • DA Branson Announces Launch of Restorative Justice Program

    District Attorney Charles Branson is pleased to announce the upcoming launch of a new restorative justice program in Douglas County.  The Douglas County District Attorney’s Office has partnered with the Kansas Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (KIPCOR) to develop a restorative justice program aimed at justice reform for juvenile offenders.

  • District Attorney’s Office Will Not File Cases Related to Peaceful Protests

    Monday afternoon, law enforcement officers with the Lawrence Police Department and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office made six arrests and issued three citations while attempting to clear protesters from Massachusetts Street. The protesters in question had been asked to leave the roadway but declined to follow the officers’ orders in violation of K.S.A. 8-1503. Later that same evening, law enforcement closed the street for continued use by protesters. 

  • Information Regarding July 10, 2020 Traffic Docket

    The Douglas County District Attorney’s Office became aware of an issue that arose with the digital ticket system used by the Kansas Highway Patrol and overseen by the Office of Judicial Administration (OJA). With the closure of the Douglas County District Court this past Spring due to COVID-19, all tickets issued by Kansas Highway Patrol during that time were set on the first available court date in July. The digital ticket system never moved on to the next hearing date.

  • Emergency Management encourages severe weather preparedness

    As severe weather season ramps up, the COVID-19 pandemic has raised questions about how to react to severe weather. While we understand the importance of social distancing, the National Weather Service and Emergency Management agree that during a Tornado Warning, the first priority should be protection from a potential tornado even if this means temporarily breaking social distancing.
