\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\tCITIZEN'S ACADEMY UPDATE:<\/span>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is now accepting applications for Citizen's Academy 2026!\n\nThe academy will begin in April and continue into May for seven weeks. Class will be held on Thursday evenings (dinner included) from 5:30 pm to 9 pm and two sessions on Saturday, all day (lunch included). You will be contacted via email that your application was received. Applications will be accepted until February 28th and you will be notified if you were chosen for the academy the week of March 9th.\n\nDates of the Academy:\nApril 2nd, 9th, 16th, 18th, 23rd, and 30th\nMay 2nd, 7th, and graduation will be held on the 14th.\n\nTo apply, please fill out the application using the button below.<\/span>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Sheriff\u2019s Office Citizen\u2019s Academy is designed to give participants a working knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of the Sheriff\u2019s Office.\u00a0 Academy attendees will receive classroom and hands-on instruction at several different locations.\u00a0 Topics will include tours and an overview of the Corrections and Operations Divisions, driving skills, car stop techniques, field sobriety testing, building searches, defensive tactics, use of force, and more. The academy is a seven week program that meets Thursday evenings and for two full Saturdays. Participants must be Douglas County residents and 18 years of age or older.\u00a0<\/p>

Sheriff Jay Armbrister has had a long standing goal of providing a Citizen\u2019s Academy for the residents of Douglas County.\u00a0 His hope is that this and future academies will build a greater public awareness of the essential role the Sheriff\u2019s Office plays in serving the community.\u00a0 The Sheriff has seen how academy participants as well as Sheriff\u2019s Office staff have benefited from the experience. The success of the program has assisted us in meeting the future needs of the citizens of Douglas County.<\/p>
